18. News App Critique

The Google News app is one of the top-rated news apps available, today. The app is available on iOS and android devices, as well as on the Web. The app is offered as a free download and there is an option for a premium subscription, which are billed and paid for through your Google Play account. 

While Google News is one of the hottest news apps on the market, but why switch up your regular news apps for this one?

What makes Google News stand out? The app offers full coverage of news stories for national and international updates. When you first open the app, you are led to the homepage or the "For You" page which immediately lists the Top 5 news stories, right now. 

Alongside the For You tab, there is Headlines, Following, and Newsstand available for viewing. 

The Headlines tab allows you to choose topics between latest stories, U.S, World, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, and Health. 

Each specific subject gives numerous stories according to the topic, allowing readers to expand and pick topics based on personal preference. And each news story is provided with full coverage of the topic.

Inside the Google News Android version, the same applications are available to the user. Just like the iOS version, the reader is able to view all news updates and viewers have the ability to customize the home page and their preferences to make it a personal experience.

During this analysis of the news app, I downloaded the app myself. And since it has been on my phone, notifications have promptly appeared from different newspapers such as: The New York Times, CNN, KWTX, and DailyMail. In my Following tab I was able to choose my favorite news outlets for my notifications to be featured on the app and in my notifications. This app is a unexpected and nice addition to the assortment of applications available on my phone, and I strongly suggest anyone interested in current events to download this app on their iPhone, Android, or even their laptop.
